The Area:

 

SINAIA also called the Carpathians pearl is located in central Romania in the Prahova valley at 800 metres altitude and is surrounded by the Bucegi national park at only 120 km from the capital Bucharest,  45km from Braşov and Bran Castle (famously known as "Dracula's Castle").

 

Becoming the preferred destination for Romanian and foreign people, Sinaia is one of the most renowned cities in Romania for winter sports, walks & hiking, tourist attractions or just as a distraction or relaxing place where people go for the week-end or a vacation. The main point of interest are:


Peleş Castle (1873-1883):

  • Former summer residence of the royal family Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. Marvellous piece of architecture...

Pelişor Castle (1899-1903):

  • Pelişor Castle was built by King Carol I for his nephew, the future King Ferdinand.

Sinaia Monastery (1690-1695):

  • Built in the XVII century by Mihail Cantacuzino upon a pilgrimage to Jerusalem and Mount Sinaï (origins of the monastery and city name), Sinaia monastery is the historical and religious representation of the city.

Casino:

  • Located inside the "Dimitrie Ghica" park, Sinaia Casino is one of the symbolic buildings of the city. As an international  conference center, public and private events are often organized here.

George Enescu memorial house (1923-1926):

  • Creativity and resting place for one of the biggest romanian composer of the 20th century. The Luminiş house is part of the "George Enescu" national muzeum that houses unique valuables that belonged to the maestro.

Sheepfold Meadow (Poaina Stânii):

  • Beautiful meadow (former hunting location for the royal family) located at 1270 metres and surrounded by forest. Restauration and various sportive distractions are available. This place is also used as a starting point for mountain walks and hiking.

Sainte Anne Church (Sfânta Ana):

  • Small orthodox church located at 1400 metres altidude close to the same location where 5 centuries ago a church with the same name was built.

Ialomiţei cave:

  • Accessible by cable car from Buşteni or by road (DN71 Sinaia-Targovişte) through the Bolboci lake, the 480 metres long Ialomiţei cave is located in the heart of the Bucegi Mountains at 1530 metres altitude (gorgeous and unforgattable landscapes).

Mount Omu:

  • The mount Omu (2505 metres) is the highest peak of the Bucegi mountain. At the top is located a meteorological station along with a hut that offers accomodation. You must allow 4 hours to walk from the "Cota 2000" cable car arrival point and then through Piatra Arsă hut (1950 m) – Babele hut (2200 m) to finally reach Omu hut (2505 m).
